The University Innovation Support Project is for establishing an educational curriculum and environment in the global design education leading the constant development of media technologies.
To achieve this objective, the project reorganizes the regular curriculum for PBL programs to cultivate interdisciplinary convergence abilities and Capstone Design programs to enhance hands-on design experiences. The project also offers various workshops with industry-leading visiting artists, cutting-edge equipments and classrooms.

Emerging Creativity Workshop

Emerging Creativity Workshop is operated by School of Design Convergence. The Workshop invites the practical expertise and researchers in design and related fields which go through social innovation, to give students the opportunity to get the current trend and experience and learn the necessary ability for career planning and preparation widely. This is the representative program of the department receiving the high rate of response each semester.

Subject Package Based on Convergence PBL

We open the convergence subjects yearly since 2019, to achieve the completion of the output and cultivation of challenging and creative thinking through convergence, with teaching each feature of School of Design Convergence and School of Film & Animation for the objective that ideal convergence education of two departments.

1) Visual Essay + Puppet Making Workshop

Converged school 3rd year of School of Design Convergence + 3rd year of School of Film & Animation
Overview of the subject The development of design contents based on creative storytelling, with the convergence of one class focusing on deduction of the output of Illustration based on flat surface and another class setting a goal of producing the video by making the setting, puppets, and contents created manually.
Objective of the subject
  1. Recognition of the necessity of design convergence education to solve the complex modern society problems
  2. Enhancement of visual expression ability and communication ability
  3. Recognizing the importance of developing the creative contents and utilization strategy of the contents

2) Motion Design(2) + Experimental Film Animation Workshop

Converged school 2nd year of School of Design Convergence + 2nd year of School of Film & Animation
Overview of the subject Grafting the commerciality onto artistry and enhanced ability of message delivery based on storytelling, through the convergence education of the class that educates the producing technique of motion design with commerciality and the class that produces the film based on analysis and theory study of experimental film with fine art trait.
Objective of the subject Cultivation of film producing ability based on planning ability with liberal art thinking and creative thinking Pioneering the experimental film design field broken away from uniform motion design expression styles, through the fusion of sound theory about the film and free expression ability.

3) Design Challenge + Convergence Project

Objective of the subject Pioneering the field of creative storytelling planning and new possibility, through challenging to experimental and practical(conceptual+commercial) directing to given certain mission which is done by the group of students from two departments having similar but different tendencies.

On-site competency enhancement Capstone Design

As providing the opportunity to cultivate the necessary ability for performing the design projects and the attitude of the designer through connecting practical design affairs of various fields to the subject, this subject opens for improving self-confidence of progressing business work after the graduation, including employment and founding.

1) 2021-2 Brading & Media, Capstone Design

① Overview of Co-op Project
  • The class is for experiencing the whole branding process from the planning step such as brand analysis and consumer survey to the establishment and implement of communication strategy with consumer. The class works with Fundamental Brewing which sells the craft beer with excellent quality through strict and delicate manufacturing process.
  • For cultural value creation for brand awareness and sustainability of Fundamental Brewing, crafting the beer which is basic, essential, and a part of life as it entertains the consumers with new trial and irregularity, we proceed with the branding projects.

② Overview of Co-op Project 사회, 문화, 기업의 변화와 밀접한 영향력을 지니며 소비자와의 커뮤니케이션을 강조하는 브랜딩을 연구하는 수업입니다. 본 수업에서는 브랜딩의 기본적인 이해를 바탕으로 테크놀로지 발전과 확장에 따른 미디어의 효율적인 활용방안을 연구하며 이를 통해 급변하는 미디어 환경에서 민첩하게 대응하며 브랜딩을 주도할 수 있는 디자이너로서의 실무적 감각과 역량 강화를 목표로 합니다. 본 학기 수업은 사회적 기업, 로컬브랜드기업과 연계된 수업이며, 재료비를 지원받는 대학혁신지원사업 일환 인 캡스톤디자인 과목으로 운영됩니다.

Overview of Co-op Project
  • Development of SNS contents and cultivation of communication ability: Making webtoon contents, producing service design, and cultivation of marketing communication ability through the connection with Samsung Electronics in-house venture business and ToonSquare
  • Cultivation of brand experience design competence : Studying the process of coexistence model with small business and social economic enterprise through the connection with Zeronines, the design consulting company based on IT Technology

3) 2020-2 Branding & Media Capstone Design

① Overview of Co-op Project 1. Rebranding project of ‘Organic Tangerine Fields of Byeol’ in Jeju Island
  • Based on the request of client, students study the whole re-branding process from concept deduction through brand analysis and consumer research to consumer communication implement in this class.
  • The class proceed with the branding project that realizes and delivers the value and vision of ‘Tangerine Fields of Byeol’ which grows the tangerines that cancer patients can eat without anxiety to the consumers.

② Overview of Co-op Project 2. Cooperation with Hanwha Resort Yongin Besançon of Hanhwa Hotel & Resort Corporation Through the cooperation with Hanhwa Resort Yongin Besançon of Hanwah Hotel & Resort Corporation, the class sets a goal of producing the board game to enjoy in the resort and fairy tale book with play extensibility for certain age groups from the preschooler to the elementary school student, by making the most of Besançon’s traits as the solution to an absence of independent contents which is necessary for ‘Relaxation with family’, which is the motto of Besançon.

4) 2020-1 Community Design Capstone Design

Overview of Co-op Project For media art works exhibition in Jochiwon Cultural Garden which is operated by CLAB Art College, the cultural promotion organization of Sejong City, the class produces interactive media art works and provides the citizens in Sejong City the opportunity to enjoy and experience the culture through this exhibition.

UROP

This program is conducted with the purpose of enhancement of students’ practical design affairs competency by participating in the Co-op projects with professors. The program provides the students the opportunity to experience by themselves and prepare the career direction after the graduation through learning necessary knowledge and attitude for practical design affairs, through one-to-one coaching and mentoring with professors and experiencing the whole process of the progress of the projects.
