Curriculum of School of Design Convergence follows Core subjects organizes the core of curriculum and is realized by Elective subjects that form width and depth of the department education. Core subject for a junior provides process of developing expertise with Node subjects that belong to Core subject.

  • Core

    After forming the foundation based on the subject training basic expression ability, students develop their idea and convergence ability with studying studio subject mainly.

  • Node

    In third year of college, students take the classes over a period of a year as selecting one curriculum for developing expertise of design field.

  • Elective

    Elective subject provides various subjects dealing with all sorts of design and new issues from society, culture, technology aspects.

Design expression goes to an era of customization with individual voice from an era of massive production. Students study the basic methodology about site-specific or event-specific design based on individual’s various needs. They can cultivate an ability to decision making in society’s overall situation and creating their own unique design language.

Digital Photography E

Based on basic camera mechanism of digital camera which is learned on class, Students enhance photography design sense by pursuing film technique which is not fewer than intermediate level with the usage of studio lights and a lot of expression of digital photography by digital post-correction and synthesis. In addition, students utilize the programs such as Phase One Capture One Pro, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop in class and set a goal of improvement of expression technique of digital photograph and the level of completion of creative photograph image through right interpolation and a variety of post-correction of camera raw image.

This subject is a foundation subject for stereoscopic modeling. Students understand a property of matter constructing the object and learn the ability of form giving which draws a form.

Students considers of various issues, realizes their idea by their own reinterpretation and application to a variety of media. Through this, students construct the foundation having both free thought without determining the board between design theory and reality and basis of modeling.

Understanding of Color E

Color, the powerful tool that delivers the message of design and important factor of design, is essential for various design fields. In Understanding of Color, students study color-related main theories such as color perception, color system, color harmony, and color psychic, develop their expertise of color doing practice process such as color arrangement simultaneously.

Art History E

This subject develops culture history knowledge of formative activities which has developed with human history. Students study various factors affected during the historical artwork producing process, a lot of innovative moment of many aspects, and how the flow of improvement is affected by society, culture, and politics.

Basic Photography E

This subject is the related subject to Making Workshop(1). Students understand various materials of objects and practice tools for processing the material and manufacturing process.

Interaction Lab(2) C

This subject is tool subject with purpose of developing ability to do interactive design based on the electronic circuit with Arduino and physical computing. Student study the basis of digital output such as LED and buzzer, digital input of various switches, analogue input of various sensors, and analogue output such as servomotors.

Visual Studio(2) C

Students understand the theory and feature of dot, line, and face which are basic elements of formation. In addition, with this understanding, their objective is cultivation of ability to construct diverse plane formations and experimental formation. Furthermore they consider the basic formation principle and expression method such as rhythm, motion, symmetry, proportion with using dot, line, and face.

This subject’s objective is acquiring basic academic knowledge which can be used in diverse courses, by learning design history in the middle of the background where design field expands gradually. Furthermore students consider the future direction of design with ruminating on the design history in politics, economy, society, technology, and culture field.

This subject focuses on developing ability of idea convergence and experience sensitivity by experimenting the drawing which can help students to do concept thinking that is suitable to purpose under the certain circumstances, based on their basic drawing skills. Students cultivate image reconstruction ability through controlling formative constructive factors with line, tone, and other traditional drawing technique. However, it’s not off the point of drawing concept and contents within abstract and representational work, and this subject’s objective can be achieved by materialization of connection between modern sense drawing technique and traditional technique. Students study reinterpretation of form and creative thinking process and learn the experimental expression method by themselves, also have an opportunity to develop each other by persistent debate and critics to each other’s work.

Students learn the basis of filming such as manual of video camera, basic video grammar such as shot, sequence, and long-take, also develop video production ability by learning basic technique of digital editorial software. In addition, they develop delivery ability of efficient thinking through group debate and plan of new way of presentation. Idea discussion, idea development, and collaboration sketch during the class are important.

This subject is advanced curriculum connected with Making Workshop(1) and (2). Students study prototyping materialization ability to express their design concept as formative language with suitable ability and suitable construction.

Interaction Lab(3) C

Students understand the basic materialization principle of Web and practice basic skill such as HTML5 and CSS to create Web. They study Web expression form and interaction and Web based media to use it as expression tool of creative design. Also, they enhance their degree of understanding of a lot of service and platform based on Web.

Visual Studio(3) C

This subject is for studying the basis of typography which can be the center of graphic design. This subject emphasizes efficient utilization of typography as a visual language delivering message through the class of typography’s history, theory and practice. Student develop sophisticated typography utilization ability through various practice and challenge including proportion that is typography’s utilization as a visual language delivering message based on understanding of type’s feature and letterforms, hierarchy followed by information system, and legibility, etc.

They learn the process and the factors which is necessary to persuasive communication based on design and liberal arts, through deducing advertisement concept from the story that products or brand has and developing it to consumer word such as headline, slogan, and narration.

This subject is the most basic class for advertising design. Students study the process of viewing the object in different way by discovery or deliberately, and process of drawing commercial image with intention and meaning. Furthermore, they learn the basic theory for real advertisement production, and cultivate basic ability to convert the fact into visual advertisement language.

Advanced Typography E

This class is advanced course of Visual Studio(3). Students cultivate problem solving ability with typography in design process. Also they study the role and the importance of typography in advertisement or visual communication, and search for effective utilization of typography through experimental, sensitive expression which fits for various media environment.

Web Design E

This subject is for planning the Web service with service value like business, designing Web service experience for user. Students experience and practice the utilization of various frameworks which facilitates the materialization of Web service, and have the practical exercise of whole Web service including planning of Web service, materialization, and service management.

Motion Design(2) E

This class is related with Motion Design(1). Students understand motion graphics in various media including basic field of this, such as movie and broadcast. They proceed with a motion design project with advanced storytelling and learn advanced software technique.

Students study the method of producing 3D graphic with 3D software, focusing on design. They understand 3D graphic’s feature, basic construction and utilization method by using 3D Studio Max, Maya, etc. They learn basis of 3D animation such as 3D modeling, material expression, space organization, digital lighting, and rendering.

This class is advanced course of 3D Object Modeling(1). Students maximize the modeling, material mapping, animation effect, image processing technique by cultivation of skill ability such as V-ray, KeyShot.

Product Atelier E

This subject is for practicing analogue craftsmanship that differentiated from digital trend and providing the opportunity of cooperation between product design and craft technique.

Emotional Design E

This subject suggests new value and concept which can contribute to our life with convergence research based on human activity, psychology, sensitivity, and instinct.

Color Planning E

This subject sets a goal of learning decision factor of color in color design and applying the color design process which is planned with business practice mainly to the design. For this, students analyzes color with digital color system and practice the process of deducing the color palette and color application of design.

Digital Makers lab E

The knowledge of producing prototype with using digital fabrication tools has to be acquired for materialization of experimental UX Design and interaction design. Students learn the utilization method of various digital devices such as laser cutter machines, 3D printer, and vinyl cutting machines, and study with creative investigation of various new and old materials which can be utilized to digital fabrication.

This is team-teaching class of two professors who have different expertise. Students interpret the theme suggested by professors and imagine freely without bounding to expression method or limitation then suggest the design solution. Students also experience the co-operation process that students who have different strength of expression method make a team and take each role. Theme suggested as assignment is various, including persistent design, display design, public design, suggestive issue, etc. The theme will be selected newly by each semester.

Cultural Contents Design(1) N

Before studying total advertisement project, students study the making process of commercial video systemically, which is essential. Students learn a basic theory of commercial video mainly, message construction through analysis of excellent cases, and understand basic process of real making through writing a story board and PPM.

Visual Language(1) N

Students learn the advanced curriculum of traditional visual communication design materialization through composition of image design such as graphic, photography, and illustration. Students maximize the layout ability which is necessary to a designer and experience rational an harmonious design producing process by various experiments.

In this class, students research the newest technology ahead of the times and conduct the design work utilizing it. Concentrations of this class can be changed in every semester, also the design outcome from this class can be changed based on what technology the students use.

Students determine their research subject from the field they interested in by discussion with a professor. Then they conduct their research with individual weekly meeting with professor during a semester.

This subject is an experimental and innovative studio subject for 4th year. Students connect with industrial enterprises and conduct their practical project and research task with various channels regardless of platform.

This subject is for investigation of method that uses digital media as artistic expression. Students study the difference between design and arts, the grammar of artwork as artistic language. Then they conduct the pure art or public art project with digital media and experience the communication with audience through their exhibition in end of term.

Students who do an internship during vacation get credit, and other students who do the internship during the semester also can take this class. Students learn and share their experience from different enterprises. The students who finished their internship present their outcome and course in the class in the beginning of the semester, and the flawed part of this presentation will be finished as additional assignment and final project presentation.

They set and write the curriculum vitae and portfolio’s direction which is appropriate to various objective such as employment at big companies, small companies, overseas employment, and going on to school.
