Mustache Curly

Date : 2021

For Visual Essay, I worked on writing and drawing children’s fairy tales, and at the doll production workshop, the main character of the fairy tale was made into a stop motion doll and a studio to create a scene in the fairy tale.

[Mustache Curly] is a story about the social difficulties faced by special children who are slightly different from others. I made a fairy tale with the heart of a child who is worried about other people’s negative views, and with the heart of support and comfort. In addition, I hope it will comfort the hearts of adults who are concerned about the gaze of others.

Curly, who has just a little curly hair, suddenly has a mustache one day, and Curly goes on an adventure to get rid of it.

They try many ways to get rid of the mustache, but eventually Curly realizes when he sees himself with a flower beard. That nothing I’ve been worried about so far. That something a little more special than others has appeared.

In the doll set scene (image above and below), people were afraid of whispering. The temperature difference between the cold night and the warm room was expressed using lighting. We also visualized the fearful image in our imagination using shadows.
The doll for stop motion is designed to allow movement of all body parts, hair, and clothes after character analysis.
